Aurochs paintings in Lascaux

Lascaux is the setting in a network of caves in southwestern France. This area is noted for its Paleolithic cave paintings. The original caves are located near the village of Montignac, in the department of Dordogne. The cave paintings within are around 17,300 years old, dating to the Pleistocene epoch geologically, and the Upper Paleolithic archaeologically. They primarily consist of depictions of prehistoric megafauna, most of which lived in this area at the time.
