Basilosaurus is a giant whale that lived in the late Eocene Epoch, when the world was like a sea and several islands with fresh and salt water. This whale probably evolved from Ambulocetus, an early whale that is carnivorous. This whale was an apex predator and was usually feared because it had a powerful jaw designed to hang on to prey which was given from whale ancestors. It had a carnivorous diet of whales and sharks. Surprisingly Basilosaurus looked like a sea serpent than a whale and had support fins for holding on to a mate to have sex. It lives in what is now the Sahara dersert and died out because the oceans it lived in started drying out and weather started going crazy. By the way, Basilosaurus means king lizard for its serpent like appearance thought to be a lizard or a dinosaur.
