Balaur is an extremely unique dromeosaurid. It lived in Late Cretaceous Romania. The animal was very small, about the same size as Velociraptor and was about 5.9-6.9 feet long. It is named after an acient dragon in Romanian folklore. the animal is known from a single fossil. About seventy million years ago when Balaur lived, the sea levels were higher and the lands we know today were islands and under the sea. Balaur is from one of these islands called, Hateg Island. the island was very isolated so evolution took a new leash and made wonderous changes to the species on the larger land masses. Balaur's feature was not one but two large sickle claws on its toes, making it even more deadly than a "normal raptor".
